The memory of a respected member of the Kerry community, Stephen Dunn, will be honoured in the renaming of Dunn Road.

Council has endorsed the name change to Stephen Dunn Road following a resident's submission outlining the confusion caused to members of the community and emergency services by Kerry and Allandale each having a Dunn Road in their area.

Corporate and Community Services Chair Cr Michael Enright said: "Stephen Dunn was a true gentleman, and I am proud that Council has endorsed this name change."

Division 3 Councillor Virginia West said the move was positive for residents, not only to ease their stress in emergency situations but also in ensuring their mail was delivered to the correct address.

"This change has been absolutely vital in ensuring clarity for emergency services as there are several Dunn Roads throughout the Scenic Rim," she said.

The Dunn family was one of the first to settle in the area after Beaudesert Run was subdivided.

Stephen Dunn initiated access to the land in the late 1950s and early 1960s and land around the road is still owned by his family.

Mayor Greg Christensen said further duplicate road names in the Scenic Rim would be audited by Council's Infrastructure team.
