New playground for Beaudesert's Jubilee Park

Work has started on the Scenic Rim's newest children's playground at Beaudesert's popular Jubilee Park.

"Ground works started on-site on Monday and installation of the new play equipment is scheduled for mid-September," Mayor Greg Christensen said.

Cr Christensen said the enhancements at Jubilee Park formed part of Council's long-term Playgrounds Strategy, designed to guide the management and improvement of community playgrounds across the region.

"This process is about providing contemporary play spaces across our communities, offering children a wide variety of outdoor experiences," he said.

"Work at Jubilee Park follows the completion of our first new playground at Billabong Park, Kooralbyn, which officially opens to the public this Sunday.

"Projects like these illustrate how Council is investing the community's rate dollars to provide not only crucial core infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, but also community facilities and amenities which help make our towns and villages a great place to live and play."

Cr Christensen said the new playground at Jubilee Park would provide 120 different activities to engage and excite children.

"Among the new playground amenities will be a custom upside-down tower with a rope climb and covered slides, a double-bay swing, giant 'bird's nest' swing, a twisted climbing net, a flying-fox cableway and climbing blocks," he said.

"Equipment has been selected to provide a variety of inclusive play environments for children across a broad spectrum of physical and intellectual abilities."

Division 4 representative Cr Michael Enright said the playground projects at Kooralbyn and Beaudesert were providing wonderful new facilities for the youngest members of the community.

"I am pleased that we have been able to deliver a much-needed playground for the Kooralbyn community at Billabong Park and I am looking forward to the completion of the next play space in our ongoing program," Cr Enright said.

"The playground at Jubilee Park is really going to take the play experiences on offer to local children to the next level."

Cr Christensen said design of the next planned project, a new playground for Canungra's DJ Smith Park, was also being progressed at present.

"Council plans to deliver six new playgrounds over the next two years. In addition to Kooralbyn, Beaudesert and Canungra, other locations in the upcoming program include Tamborine Mountain, Boonah and Aratula," he said.

"These six will be followed by other locations in coming years as part of our commitment to the community. Council's investment in playgrounds aligns with the shared Community Plan vision for the Scenic Rim as a region of healthy, engaged and resourceful communities which enjoy relaxed living and a rural lifestyle."
