Scenic Rim residents who enjoyed this week's Ekka day off can mark their calendars for next year's Royal Brisbane Show public holiday.

The 2018 Royal Brisbane Show, affectionately known as the Ekka, will run from Friday 10 August to Sunday 19 August, with Council nominating Monday 13 August as a public holiday for the Scenic Rim region.

Corporate and Community Services Committee chair, Cr Virginia West, said the Ekka had special significance for the Scenic Rim region, whose local economy was underpinned by agriculture.

"The Royal Queensland Show is a showcase for the Scenic Rim's tourism and agriculture industries, worth collectively more than $400 million annually to the regional economy," she said.

"Many of our farmers, graziers and equestrians are involved in the show and it's a highlight of the year for many families and school children.

"The public holiday allows families to enjoy the show together and to connect with members of our rural community who grow our produce."
