Village Greens project ready to be rolled out

Council is ready to roll out its Main Street Master Plan for Tamborine Mountain, with work to commence on the groundbreaking Village Greens project by early November.

Mayor Greg Christensen said Main Street was at the heart of the Tamborine Mountain community and the Village Greens project was designed to make it pulse with life.

"Works will be carried out by the contractors responsible for creating Gallery Walk's landmark Rhoda Rushbrook Park, which was immediately embraced by the local community and visitors following its opening in July," he said.

The Village Greens represents another milestone in Council's region-wide Vibrant and Active Towns and Villages initiative which in June was recognised with an Award of Excellence in Landscape Planning from the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects.

"It is just one facet of an integrated plan to generate change by creating destinations focused on local culture and community life," Cr Christensen said.

Community needs and expectations and Tamborine Mountain's unique environment have helped to shape plans for the revitalisation of Main Street which will deliver three distinct open spaces comprising:

  • Zamia Green, opposite the Zamia Theatre to Kidd Street
  • Upper Green, between Kidd Street and Yuulong Strteet, and
  • Upper Green, between Yuulong Street and Geissmann Street.

Feedback from a community forum in March was considered in drafting the final plans for the Village Greens, which saw the removal of one proposed picnic shelter and the modification of the design of another.

"Importantly, none of the mature trees which are a feature of the Main Street medians will be removed and have been incorporated in the landscape design plans for the Village Greens," Cr Christensen said.
