Lease extension for Rural Fire Brigade

Council has provided a five-year lease extension to the Mount Alford Rural Fire Brigade to allow time for the group to identify a preferred site for future expansion.

Corporate and Community Services Committee Chair Cr Virginia West said the brigade, which is currently based in facilities in Mulholland Street, had previously been granted a long-term lease for a new site on Dwyers Ridge Rd to expand its operations.

"However, the costs associated with developing this site were higher than anticipated and the planned relocation did not occur," she said.

"As a result, we have provided the brigade, which provides a crucial service to the community, with continuity of tenure at its present facilities for a further five years.

"This will ensure the brigade, in consultation with the Public Safety Business Agency and Council, has adequate time to identify a site which best meets their future needs.

"All parties agree that larger building footprint and improved vehicle access is required."
