Boonah retirement village to be transformed

Boonah's Fassifern Retirement Village will more than triple in size over the coming years with Council approving a transformational expansion of the complex.

Planning and Development Committee chair Cr Rick Stanfield said the present retirement complex, operated by Churches of Christ Care, incorporated a 40-bed residential aged care facility and 47 independent and supported living units.

"The applicant plans to construct a new 96-bed aged care facility, almost 100 additional independent living units in a range of bedding configurations and an array of support facilities and resident amenities," he said.

"These will be delivered across a number of stages on the site's 25 hectare footprint."

As part of the redevelopment, the existing 40-bed aged care facility would be demolished.

Cr Stanfield said the expansion of the Fassifern Retirement Village was a great outcome for the local area.

"This project will bring jobs into the Boonah community during the construction stage, but will also create long-term employment opportunities with a need for additional aged care staff to support the growing facility," he said.

“There is rising demand for retirement living accommodation in the Boonah area and this development will help to address that demand.

“This is good news for Boonah and its older residents. It will offer retirees in our community, particularly those coming off the farm, the opportunity to stay in the local area and age in place with a range of care options available."
