Opera Eagle's Nest performers set to raise the roof with songs from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas

Tamborine Mountain's renowned opera company, Opera Eagles Nest, will send spirits soaring at a gala evening concert next month with songs from across the musical spectrum.

The I Will Always Love You concert at Vonda Youngman Community Centre Tamborine Mountain at 7.30pm on Saturday 21 October features an eclectic mix of country music and opera meets rock, with some of the best-loved songs from the sassy The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and the romantic Phantom of the Opera.

Continuing the celebration of Opera Eagle's Nest's 25 years in the entertainment industry that was marked by the Opera Reimagined exhibition at The Centre Beaudesert earlier this year, the concert will showcase the versatility of the company's performers.

Country songs by Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and John Denver will provide the perfect counterpoint to the drama and romance of Andrew Lloyd Webber's operatic phantom.

The concert features soprano Tania Edmunds, tenor Glenn Lorimer and mezzo Jenny Wilson, who have delighted audiences in many of Opera Eagle's Nest's more than 500 concerts that have been staged in venues ranging from cultural centres to international hotels, vineyards and even pontoons on lakes under the stars.

Scenic Rim Arts Reference Group Chair Councillor Michael Enright said Council has been pleased to play an ongoing role in the success of Opera Eagle's Nest and the celebration of its achievements.

“This is a musical company that has not only brought joy to thousands, enriching the cultural life of our community, but also continues to enhance our region’s reputation as a centre of creativity,” he said.

Tickets are $34 for adults or $28 each for concessions or groups of eight or more and can be purchased online (www.liveatthecentre.com) or by phoning the box office (07) 5540 5050.
