The Stars Will Be Out for Council's Free Movie Nights

It will be 'cue the fun' when Scenic Rim Regional Council stages its free family Saturday night movies under the stars this month.

The 2018 Free Movies in the Park program to be held at Tamborine Mountain, Beaudesert and Boonah celebrates National Families Week in May and features the family-friendly 3-D computer-animated The Emoji Movie.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the early evening events were not only for families but also aimed to bring the community together in a relaxed setting.

"Whether you're young or just young-at-heart, these free events are a great way to connect with others in your community," he said.

With a free movie, popcorn and giveaways, movie-goers need only bring their own chairs and blankets. Local service clubs will be selling food and drinks and there will be gas heaters to ward off the chill.

The Saturday night Movies in the Park program begins on 12 May at Geissmann Oval, Tamborine Mountain and continues on 19 May at Jubilee Park Beaudesert and Boonah Sports Complex on 26 May.

Each event kicks off at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.

The Emoji Movie is set in bustling Textopolis, a digital city inside a teenager's mobile phone and home to an expressive emoji, Gene, who wants nothing more than to be like all the other emojis.
