Four million dollar funding boost for Scenic Rim

Boonah Cultural Centre will receive an upgraded roof as part of the funding

The Scenic Rim region will benefit from almost $4 million of funding under the Queensland Government's 2021-2024 South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program.

Mayor Greg Christensen welcomed the formal notification of funding for the projects, which were unanimously endorsed by Council in May for submission to the program.

"We're extremely grateful for this funding from the Queensland Government, which aims to fast-track investment in new infrastructure and community assets," he said.

"Some of these projects were able to be lifted from our adopted 10-year infrastructure capital works program, so it's great we've been able to bring them forward.

"The primary goal of the program is to stimulate employment by supporting projects that will have lasting benefits for community assets and promote economic development.

"The funding will be used for a range of projects across the region, including upgrades to existing Council infrastructure, such as new equipment at local swimming pools, replacement of concrete at Canungra's Moriarity Park skatepark, a playground upgrade at Rathdowney, and new stage curtains and rigging at Kooralbyn Community Centre.

"Coronation Park in Boonah will receive a car park upgrade, including stormwater works, and Beaudesert's Selwyn Park will receive new driveways, carparking spaces and a fencing realignment.

"Tamborine Mountain's Vonda Youngman Community Centre and the Boonah Cultural Centre will see an overhaul of their air-conditioning systems.

"Both of these facilities are widely used by the community for a range of events and the replacement of air-conditioning will be welcomed by the many participants who use and visit these centres.

"The program funding also allows us to construct an additional recycling bay at the Bromelton Transfer Station, which will help support the region's efforts to reduce our waste and recycle more.

"Rehabilitating the road pavement in the Beaudesert Enterprise Precinct will provide a much needed improvement to the aged pavement that is nearing the end of its useful life."

Under the 2021-2024 South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program, works can begin from 1 July and are to be completed by 30 June 2024.
