Vehicle proof fencing for key parks in 2021-2022
Tamborine Mountain's Rosser Park is one of six parks in the Scenic Rim to benefit from upgraded fencing in 2021-2022.
Council will progressively roll out a program of controlled access to parklands with the installation of vehicle proof fencing at six parks in 2021-2022.
Council has allocated a total of $3.78 million to capital expenditure and landscape maintenance of parks and public gardens across its 129 maintained parks constituting 426 hectares of land.
Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said Harrisville's Lions Rotary Park, Canungra's Lions Park, Tamborine Mountain's Guanaba and Rosser Parks, Warrill View's J F Burnett Park and Wonglepong's Henry Franklin Park will benefit from upgraded fencing.
"Restricting vehicles has a number of benefits, including the safety of park users and amenities, and the prevention of surface degradation, erosion and tree root compaction," he said.
"Rectifying the damage from vehicles comes at a considerable cost to the community, therefore the erection of fencing and bollards is an effective preventative investment."
Stage 2 of a landscaping project for Rathdowney's Collins Park will be delivered this financial year, alongside improvements to the Beaudesert Parks and Landscape Maintenance Depot.
Cr Christensen said the Depot is home to the team who propagate plants for use in Council's parklands and its properties, cemeteries, roadsides, environmental initiatives and free tree program.
"We're going to install another access point for maintenance vehicles, which will improve the safety of the Depot entrance for residents who visit on Fridays to redeem their free trees," he said.
"There will also be improvements made to the nursery's irrigation system and associated drainage, so we can continue to propagate plants that are then used to create attractive functional parks, shady tree lined streets and unique roadside landscaping for the pleasure of current and future residents and visitors to the Scenic Rim."
