Queensland Small Business Month - Scenic Rim

As part of Queensland Small Business Month, events will be hosted by Council, local Chambers of Commerce, government departments and more to give businesses owners opportunities to network and learn new skills.

Mayor Greg Christensen said that small businesses made a vital contribution to our economy and need opportunities to upskill.

"Small businesses are the backbone of the Scenic Rim economy, making up more than 98.5% of our region's businesses," he said.

“However, so many of our small business owners are so busy working in their businesses that they don’t get the time or focus to work on their businesses. This program of events provides them with the opportunity to assess any areas they need to focus on, hear from experts, acquire new ideas, skills and tools and make connections to help take their businesses to the next level.

"This year, Queensland Small Business Month's theme is Bounce Back Better, focusing on connecting small businesses with initiatives that will equip them to rebound following the economic impacts of coronavirus.

"Events will cover everything from maximising the opportunity in social media to secrets of success, payroll to planning, grant writing to building business resilience and more, so there's sure to be something for everyone no matter what industry you're in.

"I encourage all Scenic Rim small businesses to check out the calendar of events and get involved in as much as possible — you never know what a new connection, skill or experience could mean for you and your business."

President of the Beaudesert and District Chamber of Commerce, David Kassulke, of AJ Bush & Sons, said programs like Queensland Small Business Month were vital for the local business community.

"Small businesses make up 97% of all Queensland business so their importance can't be overlooked," he said.

"Queensland Small Business Month provides an opportunity for local businesses owners to get together and discuss what challenges they face, how they're faring in the current climate and share ideas for success.

"It's really hard to take on the world as a small business owner with limited time and resources, but these events help build the strength of small businesses and the local Chambers of Commerce to bounce back in these challenging times.

"There's plenty on offer throughout the month for local businesses to get involved in, including our next Beaudesert Chamber Meeting on 19 May where you can hear from our special guest Maree Adshead, Queensland Small Business Commissioner.

"I look forward to Council, chambers and the Scenic Rim's business community coming together throughout May to reconnect, gain new skills and get inspired for the future."
