Council has collaborated with the Boonah Rotary Club to design an early education themed playground facilities upgrade at its Tiny Tots Park (Rotary Park), Church Street, Boonah.

Scenic Rim Regional Councillor Marshall Chalk said there has been a long-term collaboration dating back to when the park opened in 1951 principally for toddlers to pre-school aged children.

"Boonah's Rotary Club is celebrating 75 years in 2021 and in that time many volunteer hours have been devoted to Tiny Tots, supported by Boonah Shire Council, and now Scenic Rim Regional Council.

"We're delighted to have been able to consult with some of the same Rotarians and community members who were hands-on with the last upgrade in 1999, alongside Council's access and disability industry experts to design a park that will integrate all abilities play," said Cr Chalk.

"One of the features will be a parent and child swing seat and a bird's nest seat positioned to allow for easy transfer from a wheelchair or walker, and improved access from the street.

"The park will be closed temporarily during the upgrade and we thank the community and nearby businesses for their understanding."

The Tiny Tots (Rotary Park) Playground Project is an initiative of the Queensland Government's COVID Works for Queensland program.

Boonah Rotary Club Secretary David Armstrong said the community is proud of this park's history and is appreciative of both State and Local Government support over the years to update it for Boonah's young families.

"Rotary has a strong focus on our youth and we were pleased to have children involved in the decision making process and the installation of a historical board is a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary this year.

"Tiny Tots is a popular and important part of Boonah's town centre and this will only build on that," Mr Armstrong said.

Works will commence in late April and is part of Council's ongoing commitment to developing vibrant towns and villages and supports its Playground Strategy.

There will be improved access from the street, upgrades to fencing and the installation of new equipment including a one-of-a-kind play space with a homestead, a fireman's pole, crawling bridge,  play desk and slide offering rich social, physical, tactile and cognitive play opportunities.

The park will be closed for the duration of the works with onsite signage. The majority of works will be undertaken between the hours of 7am and 5pm. Some activities may be undertaken outside these hours to accelerate the completion of the works.

Council acknowledges there may be a level of inconvenience to business owners, pedestrians and motorists while these works are being undertaken. Within stages of the project some parking will be restricted, however, every endeavour will be made to minimise disruption.

Any enquiries regarding the work should be directed to Council on 07 5540 5111, quoting "Tiny Tots (Rotary Park) Playground Project, Boonah".
