It will be BYO chairs and blankets as Scenic Rim Regional Council presents its Free Movies in the Park program in coming weeks.

Families are invited to get into the spirit of the festive season early with the animated version of Dr Seuss’ The Grinch screening under the stars beginning at Jubilee Park, Beaudesert, at 6.30pm on Saturday 21 November.

Based on the much-loved classic by Dr Seuss, The Grinch is the heart-warming story of a cynical grump whose mission is to steal Christmas but who is changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen encouraged everyone to join in the fun of a film with a message about the power of optimism.

“After the challenges of the past year, the Free Movies in the Park events are a great opportunity for communities across our region to celebrate the spirit of the Christmas season,” he said.

"Whether you're young or just young-at-heart, the Free Movies in the Park are a great way to connect with others in your community.

“These early evening events are not only for families but also aim to bring the community together in a relaxed setting.”

The Free Movies in the Park will screen at 6.30pm on the following dates at these locations:
• Saturday 21 November: Jubilee Park, Beaudesert
• Saturday 28 November: Geissmann Oval, Tamborine Mountain, and
• Saturday 5 December: Coronation Park, Boonah.

At each location local clubs will be selling food and drinks and Council will have free fruit and giveaways.

COVID-safe plans are in place for each of the events and participants will be encouraged to continue to maintain social distancing.

“I hope you will join us in celebrating the spirit of the season and the spirit of our communities,” Cr Christensen said.
