Celebrating Scenic Rim's new Aussies on Citizenship Day

Another 21 Scenic Rim residents are now officially Australian citizens following a ceremony in Beaudesert this afternoon celebrating Australian Citizenship Day.

In his welcoming address, Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said it was an extremely important day for everyone involved.

"Many of our new citizens have been living here for a long time, and others only for a short time, however I'm glad they've chosen to share their life with us here in the Scenic Rim,” he said.

"Our people are what makes our communities so rich and authentic.

"Bringing more diversity into the fabric of our communities increases this richness and makes the Scenic Rim a much more inclusive place to live."

Citizenship Day is celebrated on 17 September each year and provides an opportunity for us all to take pride in Australia's democratic values and celebrate the role our citizens play in shaping the nation.

Cr Virginia West said it was pleasure to be part of the formal ceremony and meet with the many new Australians who had chosen to make the Scenic Rim home.

"Some of our new citizens come from as far away as Russia and as close as our near neighbours including New Zealand, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea," she said.

"Each and every one who made their citizenship pledge today recognises the opportunity they have to build a happy and prosperous future here and they are very welcome by all of us."
