Joint media release with the Hon. Scott Buchholz MP:

A joint project of the Australian Government and Scenic Rim Regional Council is delivering upgrades to Beechmont Road.

Works recently completed on stage one of the upgrades, were funded in large part through the Australian Governments Roads to Recovery program.

Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz said the recent completion of upgrades to Beechmont Road from Tucker Lane to James Sharp Memorial Park, was another investment in this critical road corridor.

“We’ve made a number of significant investments to improve accessibility, safety and efficiency on this critical route between the Scenic Rim and the Gold Coast.

“These investments are about improving the journey for residents, getting them home sooner and safer and ensuring a more resilient road network.

“In the fire events of last year, we saw firsthand the importance of this road in enabling emergency services access and residents a safe route out.

Mr Buchholz said the Australian Government had partnered with council to fund $1,089,053 of the $1,701,580 investment in Beechmont Road, for realignment, widening, drainage works, full pavement reconstruction and sealing to current design standards.

“This Roads to Recovery project builds on our previous investments, such as the upgrade to Back Creek, Sharp and Botan Creek Bridges,” Mr Buchholz said.

The partnership between local government and the Australian Government has been critical to the delivery of these projects.

Cr Greg Christensen, Mayor of the Scenic Rim Regional Council said the robust and modern bridge infrastructure made a remarkable difference in the bushfire response last year.

"Without this standard of infrastructure, the outcome may have been far worse without these investments," he said.

"Being able to continue to upgrade our roads to this standard, while minimising the burden on our ratepayers is a great outcome for the whole region.

"We are grateful for the Australian Government's support, and in particular from local Federal Member, Scott Buchholz."

Division 3 Councillor Virginia West said the work not only benefited the local residents, but also for the many visitors who travel to the region.

"With its lovely windy bends and spectacular views, Beechmont Road is a favourite for our visitors, and these works will make it safer for everyone," she said.

Mr Buchholz said the recent completion of the Beechmont Road, Witheren stage one marked the end of one investment with more in the pipeline.

“I am pleased to say through the Australian Governments Black Spot Program, which sits in my portfolio as Assistant Minister for Road Safety, Beechmont Road - south of Farm Grove Road – will benefit from a further $982,000 in Federal Government funding,” Mr Buchholz said.
