Intermodal facility a game changer for Bromelton

Scenic Rim's newest industry has been officially welcomed into the fold with the commissioning of SCT Logistics' regional intermodal freight facility at Bromelton.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the purpose-built facility connecting rail and road freight was a game changer for the regional economy and the growth of the Bromelton State Development Area.

"SCT Logistics' investment in cross-dock freight handling is another crucial building block towards fully realising the potential of this emerging industry precinct," he said.

"It is a further step towards realising the long-term vision of Bromelton as South East Queensland's 'inland port', located at the future crossroads of coastal and country rail."

Mayor Christensen and Scenic Rim councillors joined Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce, Queensland Assistant Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Glenn Butcher, SCT management, and an array of invited guests for the official commissioning of the facility on Boonah-Beaudesert Rd.

"Today is recognition of how collaboration between governments at all levels and industry can deliver a game changer for the economic landscape of a region," Cr Christensen said.

"Scenic Rim Regional Council secured almost $10 million in Commonwealth funding under the National Strong Regions Program to support the establishment of SCT's intermodal facility within a State-administered priority development area, intersected by a nationally significant rail corridor.

"This has been a collective effort at all levels and both Scenic Rim and South East Queensland are set to reap the rewards of this investment. I particularly commend the tenacity of Geoff Smith and his SCT team in moving from project announcement to having trains and trucks rolling at Bromelton in little more than 12 months."

Cr Christensen said Bromelton represented emerging engine room of the Scenic Rim's future economy, providing crucial jobs and business growth.

"But it also provides an opportunity to reframe the logistics and industrial landscape in SEQ, providing a greenfields development site outside of the congested urban footprint of Greater Brisbane," he said.

"Scenic Rim's newest industry - intermodal freight and logistics - joins an impressive mix of innovative industry leaders who already call Bromelton home, including QuickCell Technologies, Gelita, AJ Bush and Sons and two quarrying operations."
