The Scenic Rim is mourning the passing of a community stalwart, former Boonah Shire Clerk Charles Grant OAM, at the age of 91.

Known affectionately as Charlie Grant to members of the Boonah community and the Scenic Rim Regional Council staff whom he mentored, he was the longest serving Shire Clerk in the history of Boonah Council and played a key role in the growth and expansion of what would become the Scenic Rim region.

Mayor Greg Christensen paid tribute to Mr Grant's dedication and service to his community as Shire Clerk of Boonah Council from 1955 to 1991.

"Council extends its condolences to the family and friends of Mr Grant," Cr Christensen said.

Former Beaudesert Shire Clerk, Keith Stuckey OAM, who served as Deputy Shire Clerk of Beaudesert Shire from 1969 to 1971 and then Shire Clerk from 1971 to 1990, also passed away early last month.

"Both served the local community with distinction for many years and their contribution has provided a lasting legacy for which they will be remembered," Cr Christensen said.

"Both were awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 1989 for their services to local government."

Mr Grant briefly served as a Councillor in 1996, filling a vacancy left by the death of Cr Kevin Heraud, but chose not to nominate for the 1997 election.

A long-serving member of the Rotary Club of Boonah, Mr Grant was made an Honorary Member in July this year for 59 years of service. He also served his community as a committee member of the Boonah Golf Club.

"As a stalwart of his local community, Mr Grant also served on the Boonah District Cultural Committee, the School of Arts Committee and was a major contributor to the Fassifern Story publication in 1991," Cr Christensen said.
