Scenic Rim Annual Report adopted

Scenic Rim Regional Council's 2016-17 Annual Report was adopted its November Ordinary Meeting.

Council is required to prepare an Annual Report and Financial Statements as prescribed by the Local Government Act 2009.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the document provided a snapshot of Council's financial and operational performance during the 2016-17 year.

"It is Council's report card to the community as to how the organisation's achievements have progressed the desired outcomes of the Scenic Rim Community Plan. I encourage everyone to take a look at the Scenic Rim 2016-17 Annual Report and gain an insight into the work Council is doing to advance this shared vision for our region," he said.

Cr Christensen said 2016-17 had been a year of extremes for the Scenic Rim region.

"We achieved some significant milestones during the year: construction of the Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass; activation of intermodal freight and logistics capacity within the Bromelton State Development Area; the completion of our first master planned town centre precinct in Boonah’s Railway Street; and our most successful Eat Local Week yet," he said.

"At the same time, ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie at the end of March delivered the most significant flooding the region has experienced in the past two decades. The forces of nature dealt a major blow to Council’s road and bridge infrastructure, leaving a damage bill of more than $40 million.

"Our financial and policy settings for 2016-17 continued to reflect our accountability for managing the long-term sustainability of the region’s asset base, particularly our roads and bridges, while continuing to provide a pathway for sustainable economic development and growth."

Cr Christensen said although the annual report looked back on the financial year that was, Council also remained focused on the road ahead.

"There are many exciting opportunities on the horizon which Council is committed to capitalising upon to enhance the prosperity of our region and build a better future," he said.
