Council has dived in to ensure the Rathdowney public pool remains open during the Summer swimming season.

Mayor Greg Christensen said that following a recent decision by Education Queensland to operate the Rathdowney State School pool only during term times, Council has made interim arrangements for community use during the school holidays.

"Summer is the peak season for our swimming pools and we didn't want to see Rathdowney residents dip out," he said.

"Public swimming pools are not just about promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, they are part of our national identity.

"Many of us share memories of summer poolside gatherings with friends and family and it is important that residents of our communities continue to have access to these facilities."

During the school holidays, community use of the pool will be monitored to help determine future service levels.

The pool is located at the entrance to Rathdowney State School at 139 Mount Lindesay Highway, Rathdowney.

Regular weekend opening hours will resume Saturday 2 December from 2pm to 5pm. School holiday opening hours will take effect from Saturday 9 December until Sunday 21 January, 1pm to 5pm daily, excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Admission is $3.50 for adults and $2.50 for children, as at other Scenic Rim public pools.
